Both Toyota and Stanley Black & Decker emphasized that athletes should approach with a partnership mindset, not a handout mentality. Andre from Toyota specifically asks himself: 'Are you going to approach me with your hand out? Or are you going to approach me to take my hand?' Athletes should come with ideas about how they can help sell products, reach new customers, or solve business problems. Successful approaches include saying things like 'I can help you sell more of those' or 'You guys are big on electric vehicles and hybrids now, I got an idea.' The focus should be on what you can do for the brand, not what the brand can do for you.
